It has been 5 days since the Hard Luck show. I have always enjoyed playing for an attentive audience who have come to actually listen. I shared the stage with an impressive young singer/songwriter John John Brown. I asked him if he wanted to be addressed as John John or simply John. He smiled and answered "John is fine". We shared two 45 minute song swap sessions, a much better format than having one person do the first set and the other doing the second set since merch sales happen between sets with the second act watching the crowd leave before a chance to make some money. John began the first set swap and I the second. When it was over the audience called out for an encore, which is always gratifying. We each performed an additional song and I ended it with The Parting Glass, an Irish tune about a young man about to emigrate, spending his last night with friends. This song has been done in many tempos. I prefer doing it quietly with spare guitar. Performing this song is a heartfelt experience for me. I sang it at both my father's and my eldest son's funerals. My wife told me you could hear a pin drop.
