From the recording Easy Come Easy Go

Written about an annual camping trip with friends and family. For 30 years we have set up our tents and campers on Delaware River on the first full weekend in August. Usually the last to go to I enjoy the night sky and the gentle lapping of the river as the campfire slowly burns down.

Lyrics

Sitting by the river watch the water flow
Easy come easy go
The river’s seen it all takes it all in stride
River doesn’t care It just rolls on by
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Catfish in the River swimming kind of slow
Nothing much he’s got to do nowhere he’s got to go
That old catfish he don’t care which way the wind does blow
Easy come easy go
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy come easy go
Cast your worries to the wind
Just like the water flowing down to the sea
We won’t pass this way again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moonshine on the river intoxicating night
Fish were scarce but I didn’t care if I ever got a bite
I’m just drinking in the starlight by the campfire’s ember glow
Easy come easy go
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy come easy go
Cast your worries to the wind
Just like the water flowing down to the sea
We won’t pass this way again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sitting by the river a worn and weary man
I ask the river why life never turns out like we planned
But the river doesn’t answer, doesn’t care, or even know
Easy come easy go

Yes, the river’s has it’s secrets
Things we’ll never know
Easy come easy go
